The balance of eternal derbies in the Serbian Cup: Zvezda is a shade more successful, Partizan would like to end the series of rivals

--
Red Star and Partizan football players meet at the “Rajko Mitić” stadium in the semi-finals of the National Cup, and this will be the 11th clash between the eternal rivals in the biggest competition since the independence of Serbia.

Since the dissolution of the union of Serbia and Montenegro in 2006, the red and black and white have met in the national cup a total of 11 times, and the football players were somewhat more successful Stars who have five triumphs against five Partizans.

We saw four “eternal derbies” in the finals, where both teams triumphed twice, while the two biggest Serbian clubs met seven times on the penultimate stage, where the team from Ljutica Bogdan achieved one more victory.

The first duel went to Zvezda, Partian immediately retaliated

We saw the first match between each other in the Cup in the 2006/07 season, when Crvena zvezda won 1:0 at their stadium, thanks to a goal by Nenad Milijaš. Later, the red and whites won the biggest competition by beating Vojvodina – 2:0.

A year later, also in the semi-finals, a great derby was seen at “Maracana”, and this time Partizan won with a score of 3:2. The black and whites took a 2:0 advantage with two goals by Lamina Diara, but Zvezda came back through Burzanović and Jestrović, who leveled the score.

However, Stevan Jovetić had the last word, who led the black and whites to the final, where they beat Zemun 3:0 at home.

Two semi-final matches followed

During the 2010/11 season, the competition was played according to the modified propositions, so two matches were played in the semi-finals. This season, Partizan went to the finals, even though both teams celebrated in their own stadium.

The Black and Whites celebrated in Humska with 2:0 goals by Prins Teig, while Zvezda achieved a 1:0 victory over Piro in the second leg with a goal by Andrija Kaluđerović. That year, the black and whites also won the title, after a stormy final with Vojvodina, which ended with the official result (3:0).

Already in the following year, Zvezda took revenge on its biggest rival with a double victory in the semi-finals. Luka Milunović and Filip Kasalica brought her celebration at “Marakana”, while Darko Lazović and Kristijan Borha celebrated the second leg in Humska and confirmed their team’s place in the final.

In the battle for the trophy, the red and whites in Kruševac were better than Borac from Cačan with a score of 2:0.

It was the turn of the derbies in the finals

The next derby in the Cup was played only in 2017, when Partizan celebrated in the final with a goal by Nikola Milenkovic and thus completed the double crown.

Two years later, they rejoiced again in black and white, also in the final, when they surprised their biggest rival in their stadium with a goal by Bojan Ostojić.

The 2019/20 season brought a derby in the semi-finals, when Partizan reached the final with a goal by Bibars Nath, where, however, they bowed out after a penalty against Vojvodina at “Chair” in Niš.

The last two duels were seen in the finals and both times Zvezda was better. First, in the 2020/21 season, the red and whites celebrated at their stadium after a penalty shootout, as the game ended goalless, and a year later they also celebrated in Ljutice Bogdana with 2:1.

The goals for Zvezda were scored by Aleksandar Katai, while Slobodan Urošević scored the only goal for Partizan.
