Fener “resurrected” in the finish, won extra time and reached the break in Monaco

--

Fenerbahçe basketball players beat Monaco in the first match of the Euroleague quarterfinals with a score of 95:91 after overtime.

Monaco opened the match with a 14:4 series, which it maintained until the end of the section, after which it led 26:15.

In the continuation, the home team increased their lead to +14 with a score of 34:20. Fenner was able to get to a seven-point deficit through Dorsey and Sestina in the middle of the quarter, so that at the end of the first half it was 46:37.

At the beginning of the third period, Scotty Wilbekin was injured and could not continue the match, so Jam Madar got a chance. Thanks to three-pointers by Hayes Davis and Gudurić, the Turkish team came within two points, but they were unable to turn the score around. Monaco struggled in attack, but so did Fener, whose attacks stood out four times due to poor organization. The highest number of points on both sides was scored from the penalty line. In the last second of the third quarter, Kalatas hit a three-pointer for 61:60.

In the fourth period, Monaco made a 9:0 run and again “ran away” on the scoreboard. Finally, two tied 3-pointers by Dorsey woke up Fener and cut the deficit to one point with three and a half minutes left in the match. Finally, Fener took the lead for the first time with Kalates points, and then with Hayes-Davis points and a foul, the guests went to +4. Monaco had a ready answer in the form of a three-pointer by Blossomgame, and then hit two free throws after a Fener turnover to return to the lead. After James’ miss, Gudurić had a shot to win, but missed and overtime followed.

In the second half, Fener was much more dominant, Kalates and Hayes-Davis made triples, then Sestina for 94:86. They missed as many as four throws, but even that didn’t mean much, because Monaco didn’t manage to score on the other side.

Hayes-Davis was the most effective for the winners with 19 points, along with seven rebounds, Kalates scored 17, and Sestina scored 16. Marko Gudurić had 11 points, three rebounds and five assists.

In Monaco, Okobo scored 19 points, James and Lloyd scored 16 each.
