How would you describe the long-term successful cooperation with Novak Djokovic?
“They were not very easy, not because of our relationship, but because of everything that happened, which you yourself know. But all in all, in the end, when the line is drawn, the results are phenomenal, all records are broken, and we remain super friends. Five years were successful, so everything is great”, says Ivanišević.
How much did you like it, after the successful years of your playing career, to return to that spirit of having to win, only this time in a different role?
“You see, I had my career, I switched to coaching, which in the end turned out to be maybe better than this tennis shoe of mine. Coaching Novak, as everyone knows, is not easy, it’s not just about winning. As soon as he doesn’t play the semi-finals, the final, everyone is watching what’s happening? I mean, nothing is happening, these others are playing, now these two youngsters, Siner and Alcaras, are very good, but Novak is still there, Novak is still wondering and will continue to wonder. It was an extraordinary honor and responsibility for me, so I will never forget those five years”.
How long do you think Novak can count Grand Slam titles?
“Well, he is certainly ready. Everything depends on him, how ready he will be, how motivated he will be. Motivation is the hardest part of everything. The man conquered everything”, says the former ace.
Do you plan to continue coaching?
“Well, I will, but I certainly won’t until September. I said I want a little break and then we’ll see.”
Today is a nice event, you are playing with a young talented tennis player, how do you see it all?
“Luna is extremely talented, she has a long hard work ahead of her. In Serbia, we had two top players – Ana Ivanović and Jelena Janković, so it will not be an easy task. But according to the results, she is very talented, very good. So I really wish you all the best and that one day you will be proud of Luna Vujović”, he concluded Ivanisevic.
