Gordana Šolević Subotić, one of the most smiling faces of the Institute for Mother and Child, as well as an organizer of cultural events, presented her first poem

Gordana Šolević Subotić, known to the Skadarlija audience as a participant and organizer of many poetry evenings in the bohemian street, presented her poetry debut, the collection “Try to me, I’m cold” in Gallery 73. “Mala knjiga” from Novi Sad published the collection after the author’s poem of the same name won the third prize at the prestigious Italian poetry festival, explained the moderator of the evening, gallery director Mirela Pudar.

The reading by actor Aleksandar Dunjić and Ana Šolević was accompanied by music performed by the duo “Naše tetke” (Vesna Dimić and Biljana Petković) and guitarist Milutin Obradović, which the audience followed in time with their palms. As the reviewer Katarina Branković Gajić points out, the author writes “walking through a set of memories, through the abandoned meadows of her native land, analysis and self-questioning, through the labyrinth of the soul.”

The poet told the audience: “I don’t often ask myself who I am, I’m happy to be and to be.” I decided to write with feeling”.

Many present, however, were surprised when they learned about the author’s biography that she had been employed for years as a laboratory assistant at the Institute for Mother and Child “Dr. Vukan Čupić” in New Belgrade, a laboratory for medical genetics. Those in the know remembered the “smiling face” of the famous children’s hospital and the warm look with which he saw off every little patient.

For “Politika”, Šolevic said that her poetry was discovered a few years ago at the “Mesopotamia” international festival in Belgrade by the Iranian poet Daber Al Sweet, saying that it resembles simple Arabic. He encouraged her to publish the first, but also the second collection, which will be presented soon.

The author is a member of several literary societies: “Skadarlijska bohemija”, “Libero Marconi” and “Citizens of Zemun”. She was born in Medveđa, and studied medical sciences in Zagreb

In the song “Amanet”, the laboratory technician and writer, who says that she is “dedicated to Serbia” in both roles, writes: “I don’t give a shade of color to rivers, nor blue skies, nor blue plums”.
