Nikola Ljubičić comes from the Užice village of Karan. He was a participant in the National Liberation War, and after the war he graduated from the Military Academy in Belgrade, rose to the rank of General of the JNA and was awarded the title of National Hero of Yugoslavia. In the mid-1980s, he was the Federal Secretary for National Defense for many years and a figure with numerous and deep connections at the top of the JNA, KOS and State Security.

From 1982 to 1984, he held the position of President of the Presidency of the Socialist Republic of Serbia and, according to many, played a key role in the rise of Slobodan Milošević. He died in 2005 and was buried with military honors in the Alley of Deserving Citizens at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.

In the same year, his granddaughter Ana Walš left Belgrade, where she finished the Fifth Gymnasium, and went to the United States of America. There she later married Brian Walsh, with whom she had three children. At the end of last year, she stayed in Belgrade, and on her Instagram profile she recalled her hometown.

When she once stayed in a luxury hotel in America, she wrote that it brought back memories of growing up in Belgrade, Serbia in the 90s, when she watched the movies “Home Alone” and many others with scenes from glamorous five-star hotels. She added that all her life she imagined working in a hotel like the faded “Ritz Carlton”.

– My dream came true with my first job in the US in 2005 at a hotel in Virginia where I worked alongside some of the most talented and passionate hospitality professionals. Many aspects of the positions I held initially did not involve any glamorous tasks (making beds, cleaning toilets, polishing glasses, setting tables, serving bread, etc.) and often resulted in up to 16 hours of work per day.

Now (about 15 years later) I enjoy the benefits of work ethic, discipline, endurance and cherish the memories of a trip unlike any other. Anna celebrated the New Year with her husband and children at their home in the town of Cohasset in the American state of Massachusetts. She worked in a real estate company and at around four o’clock in the morning on January 1, she left the house because she had to make an urgent business trip to Washington.

Since then, no one has heard or seen her. Her phone has since been switched off, and the only clue police have is that she didn’t board the flight.

The husband of the missing Anna Walsh was arrested yesterday in their house after a three-day search for obstructing the investigation.
