Footage released by local media shows investigators in protective suits and officers with sniffer dogs searching the Newbury Landfill in Peabody.

Police announced Sunday night that Anna’s husband, Brian, was arrested for misleading police during the investigation.

At yesterday’s hearing of Brian Walsh, the wife of the missing Anna Walsh, mother of three children from Belgrade, the court announced that a damaged bloody knife was found in the basement of the house. He was arrested and charged with misleading police officers during the investigation.

Prosecutor Lynn Beland cast doubt on Brian Walsh’s statements to the police about his movements after the disappearance of Anna Walsh on January 1.

He said he last saw Anna at her Cohasset home early on Jan. 1 when she took an Uber or Lyft to the airport to fly to Washington, D.C., where she works. He also said that on January 1, he went to a grocery store, a 35-mile drive from Cohasset, and took his child to get ice cream the next day.

However, a police investigation revealed there was no Uber or Lyft ride on New Year’s Day and that Anna Walsh did not make it to the flight or to Washington, D.C., and her cell phone was located at her home later in the day, Beland said.

Investigators also reviewed security cameras from the store where Walsh allegedly went during the same period and did not spot him, according to court filings.

It was determined, however, that on January 2, he purchased $450 worth of cleaning supplies, rags, a bucket, and tarps.

Police obtained a search warrant and found blood and a damaged bloody knife in the basement of the home.

– These different statements contributed to the delay in the investigation to the extent that Brian, as it is suspected, in the specified time frame when he gave the different statements, had time to clean up or remove the evidence – said prosecutor Lynn Beland.

Walsh is otherwise on parole for a separate federal fraud case and is therefore required to request permission to leave his home with a specific time, location and reason. His trip to the store, where he wore a mask and gloves and paid with cash, coincided with the time he was allowed to pick up the children from school, which was not open that day, court records state.

– The deliberate and direct answers to questions about his whereabouts on Sunday, January 1, 2023 and Monday, January 2, 2023, were a clear attempt to mislead investigators and delay the investigation, the document states.

– The fact that he was asked a specific question and that he gave an untrue answer that led the investigators out of the area caused a clear delay in the search for the missing person, Anna Walsh – said the prosecutor.

Brian Walsh’s bail was set at half a million dollars. He pleaded not guilty.
