The man who celebrated the New Year with Anna and Brian Walsh, Gem Mutlu was one of the last people to see Anna before she disappeared. Mutlu described the night at Walshe’s house as “very festive”.

“We hugged and celebrated, toasted as you always do for the New Year. We were very much looking forward to the new year. There was no sign of anything other than celebrating the new year”, Mutlu told Julie McDonald on VBZ-TV. Brian Walsh’s phone call on Wednesday left Mutlu in shock. “I said what’s wrong? Is something wrong? He said Ana is missing,” Mutlu said.

After the welcome, we left the Walsh’s New Year’s Eve party around 1:30am on Sunday. “She was texting her friends,” Mutlu said. She was sitting next to me at the bar stool in their kitchen. There was absolutely no indication that any tragedy or disappearance or anything else could have happened that night.”

Ana was reportedly last seen leaving the house around 4am on January 1. She left in the middle of the night, she had an emergency at work, with no mobile or bank activity since – which never made sense to Gem. He met Anna through Brian. Despite their friendship, his fears grew.

“Both Anna and Brian, individually and together, had a great influence on my life. A part of me all the time had a suspicion that maybe there was something wrong in their relationship, something didn’t match.” Mutlu said.

Those suspicions were confirmed by Brian Walsh’s arrest on Sunday night for misleading the police and the chilling evidence presented in court. Prosecutors said a bloody knife was found in the basement of the Walsh home and that Bryan allegedly bought hundreds of dollars in cleaning supplies after Anna’s disappearance.

Mutlu said that Anna and Brian lived in separate houses. “My biggest fear shifted to the children,” said Mutlu. “I wondered if the children were safe. Anna and Brian’s three young boys are in state custody. Mutlu said he was in close contact with the police.
