The relevant world media did not report the news that Daei was sentenced to death, and the leadership of the Iranian state did not comment on this information.

At the end of September, he called on the Iranian government to “solve the problems of the Iranian people instead of using repression, violence and arrests.”

The reformist newspaper “Hamihan” reported that Daei’s passport was confiscated because of what he wrote on “Instagram”.

Mass riots began in Iran in mid-September, after Mahsa Amini died in the custody of the moral police, who detained her for “improperly wearing the hijab”.

Amini was arrested on September 13 in Tehran, and her death was announced three days later.

Daei is the former captain and top scorer in the history of the Iranian national football team.

In the jersey of Iran from 1993 to 2006, he scored 109 goals in 149 matches and is the absolute record holder in that category.

In his club career, he hit the net 112 times in just over 280 games. He spent part of his career in Europe and played for Arminia from Bielefeld, Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin.
