In widely circulated footage released on the Telegram messaging app by a Russian channel believed to be linked to Moscow’s military, what appears to be a cluster munition attack across a Ukrainian countryside shows dozens of near-simultaneous explosions.
However, there are few details available about the footage that the media could not independently verify.
The RBK-500 bombs were used against Ukrainian forces near the Donetsk village of Staromayrske, according to ISV, a US-based think tank.
The settlement, located near the border with the southern region of Zaporozhye, was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in late July, after a counter-offensive by Kiev freed several villages from Moscow’s grip.
As a reminder, Ukraine received internationally banned cluster bombs from the Americans in September, and Russia warned that it would respond to that.
