In a video shared by the Kiev military in southern Ukraine that has gone viral on social media, a Russian Panzer-S1 air defense system has been hit in the Kherson region annexed by Russia.
The Russian Panzer-S1 self-propelled anti-aircraft and missile system has been deployed in Ukraine since the start of hostilities, which are now approaching their 21st month. The short-range mobile system, believed to cost around $15 million, is designed for use against aircraft, cruise missiles, precision-guided munitions and to support other air defense units against larger attacks.
A body armor system was destroyed near the Kherson village of Chaplinka, a prominent intelligence report told Newsweek, calling the system a “drone killer.”
The settlement of Chaplinka is far behind the current front lines in Russian-held territory, and Newsweek could not confirm the reliability of the information the footage appears to show.
