Miriam said the funeral was scheduled for Sunday but was canceled when the family noticed that in the box is not the body of their father, but a Russian man 20 years younger from their father. The man had bushy hair and tattoos while their father was completely bald.

The grieving daughter said she has not received an answer from the officials as to where her late father’s body is

– So far we have not received an answer. where is my father – asks Miriam.

She said that they pulled her father out of the water and immediately gave him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but to no avail. After an hour he arrived the doctor who confirmed that her father was dead. The man remained on the beach for eight hours on a lounger covered with a sheet before being taken to Havana.

– We are sad because my father died, but now we are desperate because we don’t know where his body is – said Karam, son of the deceased Faraj, to “Global News”.

The family said they followed the Canadian consulate’s instructions and paid $7,300 to transport the body.

The box arrived at the end of last week, but with the body of an unknown Russian and it has since been sent to Russia to his family.

Miriam approached officials at the Canadian consulate, but they blamed the company that handles the return of remains.

– Honestly, I’m devastated. I don’t know what to say. – said Miriam

She recalled her Syrian-born father as someone who was active, didn’t drink or smoke and was ‘always smiling’. His death left her mother devastated, as she and her brother struggled with grief, trying to get answers from those responsible who appeared to deny responsibility.

So far, the family has spent $18,248, including $10,950 for funeral services that have been put on hold. They were told in an email that consulate officials were working with Cuban authorities to resolve the issue.

– What I want is someone who will help me find my father – said Miriam.
