The Hollywood beauty had no idea who her daughter’s father was – she believed she was infertile

Padma Lakshmi revealed in her 2016 memoir “Love, Loss and What We Ate” that she was sexually abused when she was just seven years old. Then a friend of her stepfather took advantage of her. She described sometimes having to lie in bed with the man while living with her mother in an in-law apartment in Queens, New York, recalling waking up one night “to his hand in her panties.”

“She took my hand and put it in her underwear. I don’t know how many times this happened before, because I believe I slept through some of such incidents,” wrote the famous Indian woman.

However, when she told her mother what had happened, she was sent to India just days later. Namely, although her mother believed her when she further explained to her husband what Padma experienced, he claimed that the girl was making things up.

Unfortunately, the traumatic events did not end there. At the age of 16, Padma became a rape victim – her then seven years older boyfriend raped her! The presenter spoke about it only 32 years after the terrible event, and as she said herself, she did it for her daughter Krishna and all other girls around the world.

“We went to his apartment, I fell asleep and I woke up and he was on top of me. I asked him: ‘What are you doing?’. He said: ‘It will only hurt for a little while’. ‘Please don’t,’ she screamed alone,” she said a few years ago.

Unexpected pregnancy and not knowing who the father of the child is

By the way, it is interesting that this attractive 53-year-old once admitted that she did not know who the father of her child was when she found out she was pregnant. Namely, Padma struggled for years with a severe form of endometriosis, and doctors told her that she would never be able to get pregnant in the traditional way.

The beautiful Indian woman believed that she could not have children, so finding out that a new life was growing inside her was a huge surprise. “I was shocked and elated. And then I said to myself: ‘Wait, wait a minute’. The question began to bother me – not so much ‘How?’ but ‘Who'”, she wrote in her memoirs.

Namely, in 2009, when Padma became pregnant, she was dating billionaire Teddy Forstman, who died in 2011 at the age of 71, and investor Adam Dell. The presenter pointed out that she was honest with both partners and told them that she was having fun with others, but that did not prevent the pregnancy from being a shock for all parties involved.

“It probably wasn’t the best choice, but it was the choice I made at that moment. I didn’t want a serious relationship, I was hurt by the divorce I went through. I probably should have stayed single, but I met two very different, very interesting men “Men do it all the time, so I decided to do the same. I decided to be with both of them and I was open with the men who were involved in it,” she told the “Today” show.

She broke the news to Teddy first, and the businessman was furious. “First his face turned white and then red. It was as if his body could not contain his anger at the information he had just received,” she described.

Despite the stormy reaction at first, and the negative results on the paternity test, Forstmann still wanted to raise the child as his own. Padma claims he begged her to keep the test results to herself and tell everyone he was the father – which she refused. Nevertheless, he stayed with the Indian woman, and later even changed his will to leave a part of his fortune to little Krishna. Only after Teddy died, Krishna’s birth certificate was given the last name of her biological father – Adam Dell.
