The Guardian’s list of the 5 most beautiful national parks in Europe included one from our neighborhood

The travel journalist of the British media The Guardian, Rachel Deacon, recently shared the five best European national parks, and one from Croatia was also on the list.

It is the Risnjak National Park, and the list also includes the national parks Aiguestortes and Estani de Sant Maurici (Spain), Mercantour (France), Eifel (Germany) and Peneda-Geres (Portugal).

Already in the title of the text it is stated that we are talking about places that exude beauty, but also that there are no crowds. The journalist explained right at the beginning that these are exceptional landscapes where rare wild animals live and that these lesser-known national parks are worth looking for, writes the Guardian.

As for the Risnjak National Park, it was pointed out that it is a wooded park, named after one of its rarest “inhabitants”, which is certainly the lynx.

“It includes the Risnjak and Snježnik massifs in the northern part of the Dinaric Mountains and is an important habitat for the brown bear, wolf and chamois, as well as grouse and owls.” “89 species of butterflies have been recorded, and various wild orchids grow,” she pointed out.

She further explained that visitors can also walk to the source of the Kupa River via the Miraculous Valley of Butterflies, following the Leska Trail to learn more about the park itself. He also recommends climbing Risnjak and Snježnik, which are the highest peaks of this national park, reports Klix.ba.

She added that it is possible to go on chamois viewing tours, but also to rent a bicycle. At the end, he points out that about sixty people live in this location and that there is a possibility of accommodation in a hostel in one of the mountain villages.
