Another country announced that it will be a co-sponsor of the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica – World

--

Sweden will be a co-sponsor of the draft United Nations Resolution, by which July 11 would be declared the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica 1995, which will pay tribute to the victims of the genocide – the Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced today.

It was stated that Sweden will be a co-sponsor of that resolution because the judgments of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice confirmed that genocide was committed in Srebrenica in July 1995.

“The genocide in Srebrenica must never be forgotten or minimized.” We must remember and pay respect to the victims, contribute to reconciliation and learn from history,” the statement reads.

The embassy indicated that it is unacceptable to deny the existence of horrific crimes during the conflict, just as it is unacceptable to glorify individuals who have been found guilty of those crimes.

It is expected that the UN General Assembly will vote on the Resolution on Srebrenica on May 2.
