The arms of the red windmill at the top of the “Moulin Rouge”, the famous cabaret in Paris, fell on the street last night, as well as part of the inscription on the facade, and there were no injuries, according to the world media.

“For 135 years, the Moulin Rouge has experienced many adventures, but as far as the windmill is concerned, this is the first time,” club general manager Jean-Victor Clerico told reporters.

Clerico said that shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, the arms of the windmill “just gave way and fell on the sidewalk. Fortunately, the boulevard was empty at that moment. We are relieved to know that there were no injuries.”

During the fall, the letters “MOU” from the facade of the cabaret also ended up on the street.

Founded in 1889, the cabaret became a worldwide symbol of Parisian nightlife, and its can-can dancers were featured in paintings by numerous artists, including Toulouse-Lautrec. Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film of the same name cemented its appeal today.

“Paris without a windmill is like Paris without the Eiffel Tower,” said one Parisian.

The only serious accident that happened in the “house of kan-kan” was a fire that broke out during the works in 1915, which closed “Moulin Rouge” for a long time, reports RT Balkan.
