Venezuela expects to join the BRICS group of countries already this year and is already considered a part of that organization, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Ivan Hill Pinto, said today.

“Venezuela feels like a part of BRICS and is working towards becoming a full member soon,” Pinto said at a press conference in Caracas, which the Venezuelan government organized together with the Russian embassy, reports TASS.

He added that BRICS, as he said, “is non-militaristic and non-aggressive, and does not impose its will on others.”

Pinto characterized BRICS as a “fair, mutually complementary” group and a useful alliance, which Venezuela needs.

BRICS was founded in 2006 and has been expanded twice since then, and currently has 10 members.

In 2011, South Africa joined the founding countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Six countries – Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates – received an invitation to join BRICS last year, but it was later announced from Buenos Aires that they will not become part of the group, reports Tanjug.
