The Seismological Institute said the tornado was at level 3, which is two levels below the highest, and an investigation into the property damage is ongoing, state news agency Xinhua reported.
A weather station in Liangtian Village, Baijin County, about three kilometers from where the tornado originated, recorded a maximum wind gust of 20.6 meters per second this afternoon.
Earlier in the day, the city authorities issued warnings about the possible thunderrain, hail and tornado in many counties.
China was also hit by major floods
This comes as Guangdong province struggles with record flooding caused by heavy rains, which are claimed at least four lives and displaced tens of thousands of people across several cities.
At least 10 people are missing.
Guangzhou authorities announced today that the city’s total rainfall for the month has already reached 455.8 millimeters, the highest for April since 1951.
