The news about this tragedy is widely shared on social networks, and the organization for the protection of animals from Banja Luka “Wag Wag”, with which the young man cooperated, confirmed it on their Facebook profile, while they explained to “Blic” how the tragedy itself came, what all preceded it, as well as what was the trigger that led young Goran to decide on such a tragic move.

– Goran Karanović was a 19-year-old young man. We cooperated with him in that Goran provided accommodation for all the necessary dogs, while we helped him with food and all other accompanying things, because we primarily deal with education. He had about 50 dogs in his yard, and the problem arose when his neighbors began to threaten him with the police and inspection, and to complain about noise, although there was nothing of the sort. He kept the animals in his yard in the countryside, the first neighbors are not very close to him, the animals did not cause a problem, and the whole situation bothered the neighbor from Austria who came here twice a year, and who is quite far from him – he explains to ” Blic” Anđela Španović, president of the “Wag Wag” association.

“Mom, I’m not going to make it through tomorrow”

As she states, Goran looked after his dogs until they were adopted. He took good care of them and everything was legal, because the law does not stipulate how many animals you can keep in your yard, while the registration of the accommodation itself should have been completed soon, which was also very important to Goran.

– We also helped him a lot with the registration of the mentioned accommodation for animals, and it should have taken another 14-15 days for the entire matter with the paperwork and documentation to be finished. However, the police and the inspectorate constantly came to Karanović’s door and put pressure on him. The trigger that led to suicide was Goran’s youth and the fact that he did not understand that there is no way to confiscate property without a court order. Yesterday morning, his mother called me and told me the shocking news – that Goran had hanged himself in the greenhouse, and the day before the alleged seizure of his dogs by the inspectorate – continues the shaken president of the association.

As the president of the association points out, there was no indication that Goran would ultimately decide on such a tragic step, at least when he talked to her, while he told his mother the night before committing suicide: “Mom, I won’t survive tomorrow.”.

– Goran killed himself the night before yesterday. It was late. The parents and family are very shaken and cannot believe what has happened to them. He normally lived with his sister, father and mother. Neighbors who, as they say, have connections in the police, did not give him peace, and it was shown once again that such connections are stronger than the law – the president of the association points out.

Neighbors shot at Goran

The fact that a month and a half ago they shot at Goran, after which they went unpunished, shows that the harassment by the neighbors that the young man had been experiencing for several months was unbearable.

– A month and a half ago, the neighbors shot a birdshot at Goran. He reported them, but it got no epilogue. It seems that the law could have been broken in Gogi – concluded the shocked president of the association Anđela Španović for “Blic”.

When it comes to the dogs that are now left without their guardians, the president emphasizes that all of them will be adopted, and that they are already working on that.

– Believe me, since this tragedy happened, I have been on the phone 24 hours a day. People call me both from the country and abroad. I hope that we will find a home for the unfortunate dogs as soon as possible and that it will happen in two weeks – she says.

The funeral of the tragically killed young man will take place today in his native village, in Prnjavor, while in the center of Banja Luka, as the president of the association states, citizens will gather at 1 p.m. and hold a minute’s silence for the young humanitarian with a big heart, Goran Karanović, and invites everyone who opportunities to attend the same.

The mother accused the neighbors of her son’s death

“They are evildoers, they chased my Goran to his death, because of them my little angel raised his hand,” said Zora Karanović from the village of Štivor near Prnjavor, Goran’s mother, for our media yesterday.

– He had 15 of his own dogs, the rest were from the street. It happened that 50 of them were collected, he fed, treated and kept all of them, without any material use, out of pure love. He used his money to buy medicine and food for them – the disconsolate mother told Srpskainfo.

He says that some good people helped him in that noble work, but that there were others who were bothered when the dog barked.

The inconsolable mother found Goran hanging in the greenhouse.

They tried to resuscitate him, his neighbor Snjezana gave him artificial respiration and massaged his heart all the time, until the ambulance arrived, but there was no help for Goran.

When they arrived, the doctors pronounced him dead.

– To me, that child was like my own, my soul whimpers and screams from pain and sadness for him. He was an infinitely honest and sincere child. He only saved weak, abandoned and rejected souls. He trusted everyone and thought that all people were good, but in fact they were not – Snjejan Emanuel’s neighbor told Srpskainfo.

He regrets, he says, that this wonderful young man experienced such rejection and persecution and that he could not bear this burden.

The death of Maldić from Štivor caused a real storm on social networks. Animal protectors from all over BiH invited citizens to come to Prnjavor today at 1 pm and send Goran to his eternal rest.

Those who cannot come to the funeral were invited to gather at 1 pm in front of the Church of Christ the Savior in Banja Luka and observe a minute of silence for Goran.

Many responded, and from several cities in BiH and the region, a message was sent that candles for Goran will be lit in other Orthodox churches as well.
