GREECE ALSO DEMANDS WAR INDEMNIFICATION FROM GERMANY

Nikos Dendias, head of Greek diplomacy, after meeting with his Polish counterpart in Warsaw, said that Greece is seeking war reparations from Germany for war crimes committed during both world wars.

– For the Greek government and Greek society, this issue remains open, and its solution is primarily a matter of principle. I think it will be beneficial for all involved countries and the EU – said Dendias.

Let us recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Zbigniew Rau, signed an official note in which Germany is requested to pay war reparations to that country for the damage caused by the Nazis during the German occupation in World War II.

Rau stated that the note will be delivered to the German Foreign Ministry, and the signing took place ahead of Rau’s upcoming meeting with German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock in Warsaw.

Rau assessed that the note maintains his position that the two sides should “without delay” take steps regarding the effects of the German occupation of Poland in 1939-1945 in a “permanent, comprehensive, legally binding and material way”.
