A Russian tourist made a list of the best places in Serbia

--

A Russian who visited Serbia as a tourist presented the places that delighted him. And while the recommendations for Đavolja varoš and Golubac Fortress could still pass as interesting ideas for the upcoming vacation, Ćele-kula in Niš might still be too creepy for May Day enjoyment.

“Serbia is not one of those tourist traps from the guidebook, this country is a promising tourist destination that has a lot to offer… What I like the most is that regardless of your wishes as a traveler, Serbia can satisfy them all,” he said. a Russian tourist, summarizing his strongest impressions from Serbia.

He visited our country a few years ago, when Russians mostly came to Serbia only as tourists, and not very often. The guy who wanted to give them a recommendation on this occasion already stated that many people know about Serbia only that it is “a young country somewhere in Central Europe that was part of Yugoslavia”, and that “due to the conflict in Kosovo, it was not that popular among passengers”.

That’s why he chose several attractions that “left him breathless.”

He singled out Đavolja varoš as the first.

“There is an old legend about the origin of these formations, according to which the wedding ended with the Devil himself turning the wedding guests into stones. If you are one of those people who are attracted to the mystical, this is the place for you. And if you’re lucky enough to have friends who share your passion, you’ll definitely enjoy the night tours they offer,” the author of the text says, adding that “if you want to propose to your loved one in a mysterious and exotic setting, this place is perfect for you “.

However, for those for whom “this is not mystical enough and does not satisfy their dark tourist appetite”, he found something even better in Serbia. You guessed it – Čele-kula in Niš.

“I think the name says it all.” The Cell Tower on Cegro was built from the skulls of Serbian rebels and is an ominous monument to the conflict between Serbs and Turks… So, if you are brave enough, feel free to come and visit the old spirits trapped in the walls of this creepy relic,” he says, and then turns to those who would something brighter for your Instagram photo though.

He was particularly impressed by the Golubac fortress on the Danube.

“If you’re an Instagram addict, this place is definitely for you.” The castle, the water and the amazing view will make the photo perfect. Another big plus for this tourist attraction is its location. The castle is a two-hour drive from Belgrade, which makes it a perfect destination for a day trip,” he notes, and in the Đerdap National Park, he recommends seeing Đerdap Gorge, Lepenski Vir and Trajan’s Bridge.

For gourmets, he suggests the legendary tavern “?” (“Question Mark”), which has a story almost 200 years old, and where you can try all the traditional Serbian food.

This is where his list of the best places in Serbia ends, but he points out that there are others in Serbia that are worth visiting – he mentions the remains of the ancient city of Sirmium, the meanders of the Uvac River, the West Gate of Belgrade, the Ruzica Church…
