And during Milosevic’s time, after NATO’s intervention, when the financial situation was very bad, there were stories about gold. Then they blew up the hill because, according to legend, the treasure was buried there. We learned about it from the newspapers from people who had summer houses there, said the president of the Helsinki Committee, Sonja Biserko, to Index.hr, commenting on the statement of the President of Serbia that a new gold deposit had been discovered.

Now, 20 years later, he’s talking about gold again. There used to be mention of the king’s gold, and the legend of the hill, now we have new locations, which, well, only President Vučić and one other person know about. Obviously, it’s a story that starts in critical times, when there’s some economic or external pressure. This kind of practice is common in Serbia,” said Biserko.

She said that it is difficult for her to tell what the reactions of most citizens are, but she also added that they have been brainwashed for 30 years, so it is possible that some of them believed the stories about gold deposits that would change their lives. Serbian population.

“There is a basis of the story that wants to animate the audience.” But the public is so contaminated that it is possible to start anything. When the progressives came to power, they canceled the step that was taken until 2012, when there was a potential for joining the EU, but they criminalized that story.

Then we have a story that turned war criminals into national heroes, activated the “Serbian world”, and here we are again at the story of gold, which is the same today as it was 20 years ago. Then it was because of a bad financial situation.

And today, apart from the economic picture, the reason is also this involvement of the West, i.e. the arrival of delegations that threaten sanctions if Serbia does not accept the plan for Kosovo. In that, we should look for reasons for forcing the story with gold,” concluded Biserko.
