In the Russian city of Belgorod, near the Ukrainian border, people spotted pillars of light in the sky. Such lights were also visible in Moscow, northern Murmansk and eastern Omsk.

Residents of these cities are confused as to what could have caused the light phenomena, reports T-Online.
Videos and photos of the incident were posted on Twitter.
On Twitter, users are speculating that the light poles could be Russian laser weapons. The system called “Peresvet” was presented in March 2018.
It is said to be capable of blinding and disabling enemy systems at a distance of up to 1,500 kilometers.
For now, however, there is no evidence of functionality and effect.
After some time, the Russian army explained what it was all about.
The Russian Space Force is conducting experiments with foreign satellites in orbit, the Ministry of Defense announced on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Space Force.
“The specialists of the Main Center for Space Intelligence devoted special attention to monitoring the composition and condition of the orbital groups of foreign space systems, as well as conducting experiments in orbits with the aircraft of foreign countries,” the agency pointed out.
